Great War railwaymen: Britain's railway company workers at war 1914-1918. London: Uniform Press, 2014. 348pp.

There is a Foreword by Michael Portillo and an Introduction by General Lord Dannatt. The author is a director of CrossCountry trains and an Army reservist who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is a deeply serious book and awaits finding reviews by those better qualified than KPJ, who will attempt to summarise its content, and only note that KPJ was a very reluctant National Serviceman and to note that before frailty overtook him stood at the War Memorial in Holt (Norfolk) to read from scripture or recite a prayer on Remembrance Day several times. He also remembers several crossings of Northern France where the enormous scale of the battlefields on the Western Front were brought home..
