George Behrend

Born in Burghclere on 10 January 1922. Educated at public shool and Hertford College Oxford. Graduated in 1942 and served in North Africa during WW2. Author of several books on luxury railway travel and on Benjamin Britten and Stanley Spencer. Acted as chauffeur  for Britten and Pears. Moved to Findochty with his wife and died in a nursing home in Cullen on 12 July 2010 (obituary in The Scotsman). There is a self-published autobigraphy: An unexpected life. KPJ accepts that this was a major gap in steamindex.
