Charles Williams: historian of Crewe Locomotive Works

Died at Crewe on 28 January 1970 on his 87th birthday. Lived in Crewe all his life and was an expert on Crewe locomotives produced from 1860. He produced lists of LNWR locomotives.[Ottley 6594 and 6595]. Rly Mag., 1970, 116, 169. see Locomotive Mag., 1922, 28, 122. In 1911 entered into controversy with Charles Stretton (no less!): Williams wrote under "CW" as he presumably worked for LNWR (or had a "mole" within Crewe Works): controversy concerned LNWR exhibit at Stephenson Centenary Exhibition in Newcastle. See Locomotive Mag., 1911, 17, 231..
